2025 Tax Season: Deadlines Every Taxpayer Should Know

Jan. 8, 2025 · 2 min read

As the 2025 tax season approaches, staying informed about important deadlines can help you avoid unnecessary penalties and stress. Whether you're filing as an individual or representing a business, these dates are crucial to ensuring a smooth tax process. Here's what you need to know:

Tax Deadlines for 2025

  1. January 16, 2025:

    • Fourth Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due:

If you're self-employed or have other non-wage income, your final estimated tax payment for 2024 is due. This payment helps you avoid underpayment penalties.

  2. April 15, 2025:

    • Individual Tax Returns Due:

File your Form 1040 for 2024 or request an extension to file by October 15, 2025. Remember, an extension to file is NOT an extension to pay any taxes owed.

    • First Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due:

Self-employed individuals and others with non-wage income must also pay their first estimated tax payment for 2025 by this date.

  3. June 17, 2025:

    • Second Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due:

Stay on track with your estimated tax obligations for the second quarter of 2025.

  4. September 16, 2025:

    • Third Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due:

Don’t miss the third estimated payment for 2025 to avoid penalties.

  5. October 15, 2025:

    • Extended Deadline for Individual Tax Returns:

If you filed for an extension, this is your final deadline to submit your tax return for 2024.

Why These Deadlines Matter

Missing tax deadlines can result in penalties, interest, or delays in receiving your refund. By staying organized and proactive, you’ll minimize stress and ensure you’re compliant with IRS regulations.
